Personalities and traits can be passed through generations, so it's important to dress nice, practice good hygiene and pick up important traits such as work ethic or an ambitious attitude that always makes the character strive for a better career and future.

The new descendents tab allows players to look at the lineage of their characters and help determine what future generations will look and act like.

Sims in the present timeline have plenty of new options of how to change the future for all Sims characters. Most buildings remain unchanged, and Sims live the same futuristic lives rather than fighting for survival like so many post-apocalyptic movies would suggest. The different themes of the world are nice, but the changes are mostly for aesthetic purposes. Garbage piles up on the streets, and random meteor showers can fall from the sky and cause problems for Sims characters. The dirty air and dark colors of the buildings and scenery aren't very inviting.

The dystopian future is the complete opposite. The other Sims in this version of Oasis Landing seem to be a lot more friendly than in the other locations. In addition to the neutral future, players can experience a utopian paradise where trees are bright colors, a rainbow hangs high in the sky over the city and everything is clean and sparkly. Players can head back to the past and the normal Sims world by heading back to the teleporter than transferred them to Oasis Landing in the first place at anytime they want though. There are three distinct futures available in The Sims 3 Into the Future, but players will begin in the neutral future where everything looks nice and the people are even friendlier. The player is free to travel between the two worlds, but actions performed in the past can affect what happens in the future world of Oasis Landing. Soon after loading up The Sims 3, a strange Time Portal will appear around the Sims home, and a time traveler exits and offers the character the ability to travel between times and worlds to Oasis Landing. Players will enter Oasis Landing by starting a new game typically. Fall 2014 is still a long way to go though, and The Sims 3 Into the Future is a great expansion packed with enough content to help hold players over until the next game releases.

The Sims 4 is currently in development and scheduled to arrive in Fall 2014, and Sims fans are surely looking forward to a new game in the series considering The Sims 3 will be well over four years old by the time next Fall rolls around. The new game will take players to the futuristic world of Oasis Landing where Sims characters can live in a new world affected by what happens in the past.
